Św. Barbara żyła w III w., była dziewicą i męczennicą. Według legendy pochodziła z pogańskiej rodziny z Heliopolis i pobierała nauki w Nikomedii, gdzie została chrześcijanką. Jan Chrzciciel podtrzymujący baranka i św. Jakub Starszy z sakwą, trzymający książkę. Z prawej strony znajdują się św. Jadwiga podtrzymująca model kościoła oraz św. Tomasz z Cantenbury, ubrany w szaty biskupie i infułę. Rewersy skrzydeł ruchomych oraz skrzydła nieruchome zdobią malowidła ilustrujące sceny z życia św. Barbary, oparte na greckiej legendzie Szymona Metafrastesa (X w.). Jest to 8 scen przedstawiających: budowę łaźni, uwięzienie i ucieczkę świętej z wieży, poddawanie św. Barbary karze ognia, św. Barbarę przed wielkorządcą Marcjanem, pohańbienie św. Barbary, ścięcie św. Barbary, ukaranie Dioskurosa oraz pogrzeb św. Barbary. W predelli widoczna jest scena Zwiastowania w otoczeniu czterech świętych. Od lewej namalowano: św. Katarzynę (z książką i mieczem), św. Barbarę (z wieżą i mieczem), archanioła Gabriela, Marię (w białej sukni), św. Dorotę (z koszykiem i kwiatem) oraz św. Małgorzatę (ze smokiem u stóp i otwartą księgą).

St. Barbara lived in the 3rd century. She was a virgin and a martyr. According to legend, she came from
a pagan family from Heliopolis and studied in Nicomedia where she became a Christian. Her father, the wealthy merchant Dioscor, did not accept this. Barbara did not want to renounce her faith for which her father imprisoned her in the tower.

Then he brought her to trial, where she was condemned to torture and finally sentenced to death by beheading. It happened around 305. She is the patron of miners, steel workers, fishermen, soldiers – especially artillerymen, sailors, stonemasons, prisoners, architects, carpenters, bell-makers, blacksmiths, bell-founders, bricklayers, brush makers, weavers, fireworks makers, as well as the Archdiocese of Katowice, Edessa and Cairo.
