Epitafium Michała Loitza (1561 r.)

Krąg sztuki niderlandzkiej, drewno rzeźbione i polichromowane, alabaster, wym.: 240 x 140 cm; skrzydła 197 x 67 cm.

Epitafium wykonano w formie tryptyku. W części środkowej znajdują się alabastrowe reliefy tworzące ołtarzyk. Główna scena, zlokalizowana w dolnej partii przedstawia Ukrzyżowanie Chrystusa. Ponad nią znajdował się relief przedstawiający Złożenie do grobu. U góry widoczny jest relief ukazujący Zmartwychwstanie. Obramienie scen ozdobiono motywami groteskowymi wykonanymi w technice en grisaille.

The Epitaph of Michael Loitz (1561)

Dutch art circle, carved and polychrome wood, alabaster, dim.: 240 x 140 cm; wings 197 x 67 cm.

The epitaph was made in the form of a triptych. In the central part there are alabaster reliefs forming an altar. The main scene, located in the lower part, shows the Crucifixion of Christ. Above there was a relief presenting the Entombment. At the top, there is a relief with the Resurrection scene. The frames of the scenes are decorated with grotesque motifs made in the en grisaille technique. At the top, on the outer sides of the wardrobe, there are two sculptures. These are allegories of Faith (with the Tablet of the X Commandments) and Hope (with an anchor). The wings of the epitaph are painted. On the obverse of the right wing there are Michael Loitz and his sons and coats of arms of his family. On the obverse of the left wing there are painted Kordula Feldstete (Michael’s wife) with six daughters and her family’s coats of arms. Three children painted in white robes died in childhood.

The reverses are decorated with ferrule motifs, fruits, flowers, herms and the coats of arms of Michael Loitz (a twig of seven leaves and three white roses pointing downwards) and Kordula’s (on a red shield a white horizontal stripe with three lion heads). Formerly, there was an inscription board under the central part.
